Reviews
This was our first time in Oslo and it won't be our last if the recent experience at Hotel Christiania Teater is anything to go by. The staff are truly wonderful and very accommodating. We had booked a three night stay and then a one night stay to round out our week and they managed all the logistics (including keeping one of our bags there while we took an overnight jaunt to Lillehammer) without batting an eyelid or making us feel like we were an imposition. They always had a kind word for our 8 year old too. The inclusive breakfast is definitely worth a mention and they accommodated many different tastes and diet preferences, both personal and necessary so that everyone could find something they enjoyed (our daughter never eats pancakes three days in a row so she was thrilled!). Everything was fresh and well prepared. The location is perfect for first-timers in Oslo and we were fortunate to also have a Christmas Market in full swing across from the hotel entrance (noise was never an issue). It's close to the tram, bus, and subway lines and a very easy connection to the airport. We will be choosing them again next time we are in Oslo. If it's your first or fifth time and you are looking for comfort and convenience Hotel Christiania Teater should be your first stop.
Superb location, close to the train station and Oslo center. Classic hotel, good breakfast. Could do with a more modern scandinavian makeover.
A good location in an attractive historical building with pleasant staff.
Unfortunately, the basic infrastructure within rooms was poor. No working phone, unusable Wi-Fi and most significantly, an extremely noisy fan system which was not possible to switch off. This is part of a very dated system and mage sleeping in the room challenging.
While this place is well-located (however, there are caveats to its centrality—read on) and has kind, friendly staff, I can’t give a solid rating to a hotel that shares a building with a nightclub that kept me awake from 1-3AM on the Friday night-Saturday morning of my second night of the stay. I do feel for the staff, who called the club & the police, but I think the hotel either needs to keep the rooms in this portion of the hotel empty on a Friday / Saturday evening or warn guests well in advance with ability to cancel and move hotels. Additionally, the room was odd. Zero place to set toiletries in the bathroom; only overhead lights with no switches near the bed or bedside lamps/tables. I had to use my mobile flashlight to get around. The curtains are also on a rod about 15cm from the windows, which means they’re ineffective at blocking the long days or sun AND that there’s no privacy. At an angle, people from the offices could see straight into my bed, due to the large size of the gap.
This hotel has a nice lobby, great breakfast, and fantastic staff (including offering to pack me a breakfast to accommodate my very early departure to catch a train). I chose a basic room as I was traveling alone, and wonder if there is a massive gap between standard rooms and deluxe rooms that explains the hotel’s high ratings. But this, sadly, was one of the worst hotel rooms of any category in which I have stayed.
NB: I stayed in room 508. This corridor seems to have been the worst for nightclub noise. I wandered around listening in my way to inform the front desk about the noise, as there was also no phone in my room, so I had to walk down anyway. Also worth nothing: the 3rd and 4th floors are under construction, so it’s possible the hotel is working with limited rooms to solve problems like this. But, the fact that my weirdly equipped room was advertised as “just renovated” is worrying.
My preferred hotel in city centre Oslo. Very convenient for public transport, very friendly hotel, nice rooms, excellent breakfast, and seriously good pizzas in the evening.
Breakfast is included and absolutely a delight with many delicious sweet and savory options, including many for all dietary needs. (Not to mention made to order espresso.) The breakfast, service, and location make this an excellent Oslo stay.
I don't often leave bad reviews, or honestly reviews at all, but my experience in this case is worth letting others know. We used a travel agency to help us plan a trip through Scandinavia, including booking a stay at Hotel Christiania …
Great location. Friendly staff. Poor WiFi. Good breakfast. Totally unacceptable nightclub noise on Friday and Saturday nights.
